There are several options on the internet for forts and swingsets. As a consumer be aware of what you buy. Most are from well known companies that teach you how to make a safe fort/ swing set combination. These professional companies utilize information taken from the Consumer Product Safety Commission Playground Safety Handbook and the ASTM. Home made systems, although designed with the best intentions, are made with entrapment areas, exposed bolts, inferior hardware, or are just plain under engineered. All of the designs offered here voluntarily meet or exceed all safety standards set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials and the CPSC.

The Story behind our Challenger Swingsets

The Challenger was born in Houston, TX. ("Space City USA") While American astronauts and the endeavors they represent inspired me, I named this one for challenges in space and on the ground, after all,  the essence of life is purpose and what is purpose without challenges?  Once you see your child rocket through the galaxy, swing through the jungles of the Amazon, or find treasure in the sandbox, it will be easy to see how a playset can help your children develop imagination skills, confidence, coordination, and physical agility. This playset plan is the most versatile and provides the best options for add-ons that appeal to older climbers.

Several years ago our esteemed leader wrote four do-it-yourself books teaching the average parent how to make a top quality playset at home. Since the introduction of the plans 9 years ago, 1000's of happy families around the world have made their own swing set based on these plans. The quality of the design prompted a feature on the Challenger plan as well as the cover shot in a Better Homes and Garden book called "Playsets" and the plans are also featured on the "This Old House" website. Locally he is better known for his custom playsets, outdoor furniture, and treehouses.

Over the years he has declined to make his DIY designs  for the general public, preferring to make custom designs. After much poking and prodding, Jack at www.jacksbackyard.com has finally agreed to let us manufacture his do-it-yourself designs and offer them to the public provided we make them with the same quality and commitment to craftsmanship that he would offer if he built them himself.
